JustFood

The JustFood Program and Community Gardens are long-term programs that help women and their families eat well and create new and meaningful connections within their communities.

What is a "JustFood Box"?

It is a box of food consisting of a variety of nutritious items. The JustFood program provides access to healthy food for everyone.

There are two different types and sizes of JustFood boxes:

Staples Box   Staples Newsletter

Fresh Produce Box   Fresh Produce Newsletter

Staples such as bread, rice, pasta, canned soups and some fresh fruits and vegetables.   Fresh fruits and vegetables.
 Small:  $11 regular price
 $5* subsidy price
 Large:  $15 regular price
 $7* subsidy price

 Small:  $12 regular price
 $6* subsidy price
 Large:  $20 regular price
 $10* subsidy price

* Paying full price helps to keep the subsidy going for people struggling financially.

Who can become involved?

JustFood is open to everyone.

Why be involved?

To enjoy healthy, affordable food (up to 25% savings at full price!), meet new people, support local farmers in season, and try out new veggies, fruit and staples.

Whether you pay full price or the subsidized rate, take pride in being part of a food program that benefits the whole community.

Where does the food come from?

The JustFood Worker orders food for the boxes from local stores, wholesalers and from local farmers as much as possible. Volunteers and staff pack the food boxes each month.

When do I pay?

Staples boxes: You pay on or before the 8th of the month.

Fresh Produce boxes: You pay on or before the 3rd Wednesday of the month.

Sounds good! How does it work?

You can order your JustFood boxes in one of two possible ways:

  1. Join a JustFood group close to where you live by contacting the Food Action Worker at (705)743-3526, or
  2. Order separately by placing your order in person at our Administrative Office (located at 216 Simcoe Street, Peterborough, ON, next to the bus terminal)

When are the boxes packed and picked up?

Staples boxes: 3rd Wednesday of the month.

Fresh Produce boxes: 4th Wednesday of the month.

Share the Bounty

Would you like to help make healthy affordable food available for all? With your donation of $6 - $10 you are supporting the subsidy price for one small or one large box for one month.

For more information, please contact the Food Action Worker at (705) 743-3526 or email info@ywcapeterborough.org.

Interested in Volunteering with the JustFood Program?

The JustFood program is always seeking volunteers to assist with packing and delivery. We offer a good team, a good cause and good humour!

If you are interested in lending a hand, please contact the YWCA Volunteer Coordinator at (705) 743-3526 or fill out our online application form.

Hiccups

We do our best to make sure the JustFood packing days run smoothly and that all boxes are complete and in order. However, from time to time we run into glitches, and ask for your understanding as we respond to such hiccups in a quick and respectful way.
