The Freedom Walk is an annual walk-a-thon that invites the community to participate by walking to raise money and awareness of domestic violence. Over the past
10 years, the Freedom Walk has raised more than $409,500 to support our Crossroads shelter and Food Action programs. Participants have their choice of a 2km, 5km or a 10km walk.

Join us at Nicholl's Oval Park and walk the beautiful Rotary Greenway Trail. Come out by yourself or as a team with friends, family or co-workers. Raise pledges and get ready to walk.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes
|
The NEW Walk a Mile in Her Shoes website is coming soon!
There is an old saying: "You can't really understand another person's
experience until you've walked a mile in their shoes." On Friday May
7th, 2010, the YWCA asks men to literally walk one mile in women's
high-heeled shoes by participating in the 2nd annual Walk a Mile in Her
Shoes event. It's not easy walking in these shoes, but it’s fun and it
gets the community to talk about something that's really difficult to
discuss: the abuse and violence directed at women and their children in
our community.

The YWCA holds a Tag Day
fundraiser 5 times a year. Our dedicated volunteers stand outside local
businesses for 2 ½ hours and collect donations while handing out service
cards. All money raised from Tag Day events support our Crossroads
Shelter and Food Action programs.

“Once again the generosity of people in Peterborough is amazing. Thanks
to everyone who supported us and came out and braved the cold. With
everyone’s support, we raised over $4,000. All money that is raised from
Tag Days stays local and directly supports YWCA Crossroads Shelter and
Food Action programs”.

was absolutely freezing, the coldest thing I have ever done and I would
do it again”

was wonderful to see people giving money for a great cause”.

Third Party Events
A great way to support the YWCA is to donate the proceeds of an event that you run. Friends in the community raise money in many different ways. Fashion shows, coffee houses, musicals, plays and even garage sales. Let us know about your event and we can help you promote it!
