Y’s Archie Gently Used Boutique

On November 5, 2009 the YWCA Women’s Centre of Haliburton County proudly opened Y’s Archie Gently Used Boutique inside Archie Stouffer Elementary School in Minden.

 

What's it all About?

 

The store came out of a new community partnership with ASES to serve the greater Haliburton County, a community that has again this year been recognized as the poorest region in Ontario. The school was already in the process of setting up the store, but was not in a position to operate it, so the partnership came about from our ability to staff the store with volunteers.

 

The store offers clothing to women, children and youth and we are accepting donations at the YWCA Women’s Centre at 11 Bobcaygeon Road in Minden. All donations received at the Women’s Centre are delivered to the store by staff and volunteers for sorting and display, and the store is staffed by YWCA volunteers in Haliburton County.

 

The store has provided the YWCA Women’s Centre with a fabulous new opportunity for volunteers and we are now signing up an average of one new volunteer every week. The store is also creating a huge awareness of the YWCA presence in Haliburton County and we are being contacted by many who have read or heard about the store through the local media and want to know more.

 

We do not do inventory in the store and our price points are extremely low – nothing in the store is more than $3 – and the school and our YWCA staff still have the option of giving clothes to those in need. This way, we are not only delivering a necessary service to the community, we are also creating a wonderful sense of community spirit and goodwill for the YWCA Women’s Centre of Haliburton County.
