Y's Buys
What is it?
Y's Buys is the YWCA's successful second
hand store, featuring fashions and accessories for the entire family
plus small household items and collectibles.
Y's Buys was created by the YWCA of
Peterborough, Victoria and Haliburton Board of Directors in 1973.
Y's Buys is operated by Manager Valerie
West, three part time staff, and over forty dedicated volunteers. Our
volunteers are essential to our success.
What happens to the clothing
or items donated to the YWCA?
Donations of clothing are
always needed by the YWCA. Many items go directly to Crossroads Shelters
for abused women and children. Some donations go to Y's Buys to be sold
to help fund Crossroad's and other YWCA programs.
How does the consignment
system work?
Our consignment system is a great way
to make extra money!
We invite people to phone
Y's Buys to book an appointment to bring in your consignables.Staff
will determine prices for your items and welcome your input. Items
for consignment should be clean, fairly current and in good condition.
You are asked to limit your weekly consignment volume to two garbage
bags or two boxes or 25 hung items. If a consignment article has
not been sold in four weeks, the price is reduced by 25%. If it does
not sell in the next four weeks, it will automatically be donated (to
be sold at a reduced rate), or if the value of the item exeeds $25,
it is offered back to the owner who can choose to take it home or donate
it to Y's Buys.
To book a consignment appointment
